How to get 100k+ reads on Wattpad.
Posted on: 8 July 2021
On Wattpad there are so many new and upcoming authors, it’s why I love the app so much. However the more stories there are, the less likely you are to organically “blow up” over night. Of course that’s what every author wants. Its easy to look at the other stories you may have read and compare your reads to theirs, I was guilty of this. However I’m here to help! I’ve been writing on Wattpad for just under a year, Blonde Bitch my debut novel reaching over 11ok reads before I took it down as it’s now published. But it was a journey to get that 100k reads, it was a journey to 10k. The most important tip? Be patient and it’ll be worth it in the end, I promise.
Tip 1 : Use a good cover.
I think a big part of Wattpad is how aesthetically pleasing the cover is. As a reader, if I don’t like the cover I tend not to click on it as there are so many other books to choose from. I recommend PicsArt for making covers, Phonto and Pinterest is great for finding images.
Tip 2 : comment on books that are similar to your own/in the same genre
Most of my readers found me and my book through just seeing my comments on other stories. Its a great part of Wattpad, the comments tab and take advantage of that! Write funny comments, post your reactions and people will start following I can assure you. Its also a great way to connect with other writers.
Tip 3 : don’t pester other writers for shoutouts
I know you want your book to be heard and I know you want reads, but pestering and posting on other author’s boards isn’t the answer. If anything it will put people off reading your book. As an author myself, as much as I’d like to read everyone’s books I just don’t have the time. And most of the time the books aren’t in my preferred genre. I made this mistake when I started writing my books and it just isn’t worth it. There are other methods that are more effective.
Tip 4 : tags
Take advantage of the tags section as well. Use as many tags as you can. They are one of the most useful tools! Its also great for ratings. Blonde Bitch was #1 on enemies to lovers and I gained around 30k overnight taking me from 70k to 100k in a night. It takes time so be patient, but its worth it.
Tip 5 : engage with your readers
I think its so important to build an author profile when writing on Wattpad. If you are talking to your readers then they are more likely to keep coming back to your profile. Some of my really good friends now, I met on Wattpad, they were some of the first people to read my book and they were the first people to buy it! You can do this by asking a simple question : how is everyone today? On your message board. And also, who doesn’t like to make new friends?
I hope this has helped you, I have found these methods SO effective and hope that you do too. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and I’ll speak to you all soon.
